Jonathon Quinn, decorated war hero and captain of the flagship ICS Intimidator, has been ordered to oversee Operation Giant Leap, mankinds latest attempt to shatter the technological barriers of interstellar travel. Scientists at the lunar research facility manage to create a cosmic wormhole into the Polaris System, only to make a shocking discovery. But in a universe where all is not as it seems, discovery often proves deadly. A catastrophic accident triggers a ripple effect that reaches far beyond the Solar System, provoking an ancient darkness that stalks among the stars. Mankind is plunged into chaos. Jonathon, plagued by rising casualties, begins having induced nightmares that foreshadow the enemys fierce appetite for destruction. What if we could build a machine to guarantee survival...at all costs!
The survivors of a devastating mechanical invasion have used every possible resource to flee to Epsilon Eridani where humanity must start over. With unimaginable ingenuity and determination they build a new home in New Eden, a huge habitat orbiting the star. But despite the true pioneering spirit that keeps them alive, there is a growing division. Should humanity continue to spread among the stars, or launch a powerful counterattack and retake Earth from the mysterious enemy? Most important of all-- would a military victory be tantamount to suicide?
"Trigger" is an imaginative piece of speculative history where multiple timelines are brought together to unveil a story where grand designs cause havoc on the space-time continuum. Even the best intentions of brilliant minds and the altruistic desires of rising leaders can collide and crumble into chaos when the truth is only revealed in the shadows. |

The future isn't here yet. But don't worry. It will be.
Welcome to Orion's Arm, a scenario set thousands of years in the future where civilization spans the stars. Godlike ascended intelligences rule vast interstellar empires, and lesser factions seek to carve out their own dominions through intrigue and conquest. And out beyond the edge of civilized space and the human friendly worlds, adventure awaits those prepared to risk all.
Collected here for your consideration are five stories exploring the Orion's Arm universe, spanning years and light-years to examine a vast and diverse future from its beginnings in the dying Solar System to its continuing advance toward an uncertain destiny.
About the Orion's Arm Universe Project
Orion's Arm is a work in progress, a space opera setting like no other. It spans the next ten thousand years of galactic history, from the near future interplanetary colonization to the far future where the galaxy is ruled by vast ascended intelligences. It incorporates hard science, and the "soft" or social sciences, as well as the mythological, archetypal themes, as the gods of the collective psyche incarnate in unforeseen new forms.
Like all good art, this project is ever growing, and will therefore never be complete. We invite you to join us on this journey of imagination; after all it looks like we've barely gotten started, and there are still many worlds left to explore.
