In a nutshell:
Cautionary tale of a dystopian future, based on Harry Harrison's novel, Make Room! Make Room! Somehow this film rises above its limitations, stands out way above most of its contempories, and has become a cultural icon.
If you're one of the rare people who doesn't know what Soylent Green is, don't read any more reviews, don't mention to anybody that you plan to watch this movie, just get the tape/DVD and watch ASAP.
Plot Synopsis (may include spoilers):
In an overpopulated and polluted future, a corrupt New York cop (Charlton Heston) investigates a murder, and discovers a disturbing secret about the food made by the Soylent corporation.
Best Bits:
- Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson are ideal for their roles and both perform excellently
- Lots of minor details flesh out the future
- Highly memorable ending
Worst Bits:
- Some plot holes
- Dated in parts
