Flash Crowd is a short story written by Larry Niven in 1973, which describes hordes of people turning up at newsworthy events thanks to instantaneous, practically free *TELEPORTATION*.
While we may not have *TELEPORTATION* yet, thanks to mobile phones ("Flash Mobs"), and the Web (the "Slashdot Effect"), similar phenomena do now occur in real-life, but offline and online.
