Sci Fi Focus > Encyclopedia > Edgar Rice Burroughs > Caspak
The Caspak series is a series of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It tells the story of a U-Boat that ends up in the lost continent of Caprona (which is known to its inhabitants as Caspak), a land mass first discovered by the (fictional) Italian explorer Caproni in 1721.
The first two books in the series were made into the movies: *THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT* and *THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT*.

This volume includes the first Caspak novel and it's two sequels. Book 1: The Land that Time Forgot Book 2: The People that Time Forgot Book 3: Out of Time's Abyss
This is a story of lost civilizations, hidden treasures, friendship and betrayal, dinosaurs and good old-fashioned adventure--Edgar Rice Burroughs classic Caspak trilogy.
Starting out as a harrowing wartime sea adventure, Burroughs’s story ultimately develops into a lost world story reminiscent of such novels as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World, Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
A large island ringed by cliffs is encountered, and identified as Caprona, a land mass first reported by the Italian explorer Caproni in 1721 whose location was subsequently lost. The land is inhabited by primitive creatures that were presumed to be extinct. It's a dangerous world of roving dinosaurs, man-eating insects and primitive humans. It's truly a land that time forgot.

Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) has obtained lasting fame for his works about the jungle hero Tarzan, and also for the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, but he was a voluminous writer who also wrote in many other genres as well. Burroughs famously got started out of disdain for others’ writings, noting, "...if people were paid for writing rot such as I read in some of those magazines, that I could write stories just as rotten. As a matter of fact, although I had never written a story, I knew absolutely that I could write stories just as entertaining and probably a whole lot more so than any I chanced to read in those magazines."
This edition of Burroughs’ The Land that Time Forgot: The Complete Caspak Trilogy is specially formatted with a Table of Contents and is illustrated with over a dozen pictures.

Burroughs adds his own twist by postulating a unique biological system for his lost world, in which the slow progress of evolution in the world outside is recapitulated as a matter of individual metamorphosis.
