In a nutshell:
More cerebral sci-fi, in a surprisingly good sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Once again, based on Arthur C. Clarke story.
Plot Synopsis (may include spoilers):
On Earth, the USA and USSR are on the verge of war (this film was made before the fall of the Berlin wall). Meanwhile, a joint American-Soviet mission is sent to Jupiter to find out what happened to the spaceship from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Best Bits:
- Excellent cast
- Good special effects
Worst Bits:
- Dated Cold War story theme
- Techology looks dated in parts (example: computers)
- Not as good as the book, and not nearly as good as 2001: A Space Odyssey
